It had snowed and rained the day before. But give it 24 hours because the following day it was so nice and warm. We were ready to bust loose from the apartment and the Mister found out about a ramen pop-up at bisq in Inman Square.
So, we decided to give it a go.
Was it too early to drink? No. Plus, it was the featured drink. The bottle backed that up because it was the hugest bottle of sake I’d ever seen. And the sake itself? So super smooth.
For a starter, we chose the Chashu Chili dog, which was loaded with cilantro and scallions. I made a mess after eating it but there was no other way other than to go all in – lipstick on and all. It was pretty tasty, but I would’ve loved it more had the dog been griddled for little while longer. I need my dogs to have blistered skin.
I ordered the “Wicked” Shio ramen. With a base of vegetable and lobster broth, I was expecting something more sweet with a deeper flavor. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that. However, the Mister appreciated the light touch a lot – so much so that we switched bowls…thank goodness.
The Mister originally ordered the Smokey Shoyu ramen. The pork literally fell apart as soon as it came in contact with the chopstick. That has never happened. Is that good? Bad? I don’t know.
I liked the flavor of this soup more because it was deeper…seasoned and salty. Again, I’m so glad that the Mister and I ended up liking each other’s dishes.
As you can see, we live by the mantra of never ordering the same dish when dining – unless it’s the Kafka salad from Falafel King.
All-in-all it was a fun time, but…just between you and me? Santouka is way more delicious. I didn’t want to say it, but I have to say it.
